Brett & Christine’s Beach Family Portraits
If anyone tells you that family photos are easy for a photographer, they are a liar. I’m calling it out now. But if you can let the family interact like the do normally, encourage giggles and exploration, magic can happen. In those moments, without threats and manipulation, I get to be witness to the most glorious kind of love. That’s what happened for this family session.
It’s important that my families understand that we are going to roll with it. The kids are going to lead the way and we will be along for the ride within some slight parameters. This helps to alleviate stress on the parents and frustration. The little people are almost 5 and a year and a half. Autonomy is so important to them as it is to all of us, but when all day long people choose when you eat, what you eat, where you go, when you sleep etc, it’s nice to have an hour that you get to be you. The kids loved it!!! Sarah Ellison was a doll and enjoyed being front and center of the camera once she realized that I was taking pictures of her. After that, every snap of the shutter meant she’d hold up her hands and ask to “see it”. It slowed down the process but to watch the excitement and wonder in her eyes was priceless.
Christine messaged me later that night and said that both her boys kept talking about "how much fun that was”. That’s a win in my book. I’ve been photographing this family since Christine was pregnant with Finley and she told me these are by far her favorites yet. That’s my goal. Each time you commission me for a session you should leave saying 1) that was fun and 2) these are my new favorites.
Christine is adding to her framed portrait wall with these new ones and I can’t wait to see the end results. It will be a place she can look, re-center, and remember the love anytime she has had a bad day. I love that I’m a small part of bringing them all that joy.
Enjoy the joy, guys.
