A Charleston Lifestyle Newborn Session to Welcome Claire
Sometimes (lots of times) I get really fortunate to end up getting connected with some amazing people and families as clients. It's completely like a blind date. When someone emails me and inquires about a session, first thing I do is schedule a quick phone chat to start getting their vision and answering questions. Those phone calls are the foundation of our professional relationship, but it often ends up bleeding into a personal one as well. I can't help it. It's just who I am.
When Leah and I first spoke, I was immediately won over. She has this soft spoken and gentle voice that is welcoming and peaceful. She's an artist and specializes in child portraits. Here's a link if you're interested. Leah and I already had some in common. This was her second child and would be another girl. Her eldest is a little older than E this made her very understanding and had me in a position to offer second baby girl advice.
I went to their home before Claire was born to bring some samples, begin to get to know her family (remember the blind date thing) and check the lighting of the home for their lifestyle session. Soon to be Big Sis, Lilla, was eager to chat with me and mom was eager to have a baby. Andrew (dad) was a little more of a hard nut to crack. He was furry faced which I learned was a tradition he has every year of growing it out before a guys trip. Like most men, he was apprehensive about pictures. Their home is gorgeous with this sun room off the back of the house filled with natural light. Of course an artist would have an amazing home with light.
A few months later I was excited to receive the text from Andrew and Leah that baby Claire had arrived. We waited a few weeks before doing their session to allow everyone time to get into the new rhythm. This session and family were adorable. They allowed me to be a fly on the wall only interjecting once in a while to guide a pose, but letting them be while I documented their new life. Andrew baked cookies with Lilla, we read books and ended with a little free play outside.
I arrived at their home two weeks later for their reveal and ordering session. I brought Andrew some local beers that I had learned were a favorite of his and some coconut ice cream for Leah (I have to admit it was pretty good). We cried and selected favorites that they chose to place in a gorgeous linen album.
Welcome, Claire. You picked a pretty awesome family to be a part of. :)
